Thanks, Brian. :o) I well know the feeling of rejection- mainly from when I was growing up. However, I've also been accepted in certain circles. Sadly though, earning acceptance often means compromising ourselves and our deepest convictions in order to fit in. I want to be true to God and to who I am. This is a fine line and I believe, one most difficult to walk. We should desire to please others, but not damage or compromise ourselves in the process...
He is saying that in order to be successful, we must live our lives understanding that some people will reject us, yet we shouldn't compromise ourselves in order to be accepted. Not all acceptance is genuine, sometimes people enter our lives under the guise of friendship but in reality want to use or control us.
For example, when a young woman is trying to make it in Hollywood or the music industry and someone accepts her, but there are strings attached and she is expected to put out in order to keep that acceptance... Does that make it any clearer?
Hey Kev, I don't think you are a reject. I've been called everything in the book from runt and goody-goody to half-assed white trash. I have always loved people intensely, but was often a loner during childhood. Friends- especially the girls were pretty fickle. You know, lovin' you one day, hatin' you the next. With friends like that who needs enemies?! Check this out, when I started highschool I was labeled, 'The White-trash queen of rejects'. I would let anyone sit at my table, and soon I had a crowd. It was great! Before too long people stopped teasing me about it and actually were cool about things. My point? Other people may label you a reject or whatever. God accepts you, accept yourself, then nothing else will matter.
I'm a BIG fan of Napoleon Dynamite. I died laughing over that film. Could SOOOO relate!! Take care!!! :o)
