Sunni & Shia Muslims...

What happens when a Sunni man marries a Shia woman in Iraq? It's amazing to me that such terrible division can occur over how one washes ones feet, folds their hands during prayer or which religious figures one reveres. Seems so insignificant. Why bomb and kill over such minor diversities? Who suffers more than the children do? What kind of lives are they going to have- what hope? Let us learn a lesson from what we see playing out in the Muslim world today. I am challenged not to despise other believers for minor differences or to judge them harshly in areas where their beliefs vary from my own. We are ALL children of the same God! The violence in Iraq is simply the extreme version of what happens when we allow differences to cause resentment, for resentment leads to hatred and hatred to murder. There are those in Iraq who WANT civil war and are carrying out these atrocities to encite violence. Sadly, many are not strong enough in their faith to rise above retaliation. The article below really tugged on my heart-strings- note the painful look of dispair on the woman's face as she passes the wreckage. How I feel for these precious people:

I dont know much about the middle east and whats going on over there. Im a busy man and I dont like to watch the news. Even if I do know whats going on, Im just one person and there is little I can do to change the way things are. Thanks for bringing up some of these issues on your blog. It is sad that religion often tends to divide instead of unite people.

it's not just the posture .. it's beliefs too .. and there are various issues when you marry into a different belief .. (it's not a totally different belief .. it's just a different sect in our religion like Prodestants and Catholics in Christianity) .. is how will you raise the children? would they be Shia or Sunni?

On a country level things are always exploited and made bigger than they are ..

Nabeel, Thank you for clarifying on that. Yes, it can be quite difficult to decide how to raise the children when there are two different beliefs under one roof and yet this happens, people fall in love. This unrest in Iraq reminds me of the terrible fighting between Catholics and Protestants in Ireland that went on for so many years...

Forget about killing the "infidels", the Koran explicitly states that a Muslim should never kill another Muslim! I wonder how do these people reconcile the violence with their faith.

yes that's right crystal .. Muslims are not to kill another Muslim .. well .. actually no .. we are not to commit murder at all .. if one does that .. no matter how good one is .. they can't go to heaven. This is a crime committed against a man and not God .. so God can't forgive it .. only that man can
